Representatives from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office visited our high school this week to present a powerful assembly: Empowering Students: Preventing Bullying, Discrimination and Hate Crimes. Deputy Bureau Chief, Vanessa Overland provided information about identifying various forms of harassment and understanding the impact and consequences of hate crimes. Victim Advocate, Joselo Lucero shared his story of losing his brother to a hate crime committed by teenagers. He spoke about the importance of developing empathy to create an environment where every student feels included, respected, and safe.
