Attention students enrolled in the Spring 2020 Drivers Education program:

Please click and view the presentation below on new guidance to complete the Spring 2020 Driver's Education program:

There will be no Fall 2020 semester Driver’s Ed class at Mt. Sinai School District as we are still waiting for NYS Education Department and NYS DMV guidance to complete the Spring 2020 session.

Please check back in November for possible Spring 2021 class registration information.

Attention students enrolled in the Spring 2020 Drivers Education program:

At this time, we have completed the maximum amount of lesson we can do online as per state guidelines.  There are still (8) hours remaining for in class time.  Once the P.A.U.S.E. order is lifted we will still have 8 hours of in person instruction to complete prior to a final class.

We will send out information when it becomes available.  Our date of return will be determined based on guidelines from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and the New York State Education Department.  Thank you for your patience.

Attention students enrolled in the Spring 2020 Drivers Education program:

Due to the school closure, please continue to complete your lecture assignments online with Mr. Caskey.

As for the driving lab portion of drivers ed, we are awaiting further instructions from the New York State Education Department and the DMV. It is likely that your driving labs will continue into the summer with social distancing practices. More information to follow.

Please email Ms. Hine with any questions or concerns.

Driver & Traffic Safety Education in New York State schools is a course implemented via a joint partnership between the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The Driver Education course is intended to educate students (age 16 or older) on appropriate driving skills and habits as well as playing a responsible role in the highway transportation/safety system. Course highlights include 24 hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of behind the wheel training and observation. Students who satisfactorily complete the course are eligible to receive the MV-285: Student Certificate of Completion.

The MV-285: Student Certificate of Completion allows:

  • a NYS Junior Permit holder to schedule a road test
  • young drivers a possible reduction in automobile insurance cost (participation is dependant upon insurance provider participation)
  • a 17 year old to receive a senior license (MV-285 form must be submitted to local DMV to attain this benefit)
